Gutter guard protection

Gutter guard protection can be one of the best investments you can make to protect your gutters from debris.  Choosing the right protection for your gutters can be mind boggling with all of the products on the market.  Many gutter guard protection systems claim to keep all debris out of your gutters and at the same time taking on heavy rain fall.  The way that many systems are installed are by using a product that is made out of metal or plastic that slides under your shingles and over the gutter.  To hold in place many systems must be screwed down onto the top of the gutter or to the roof surface.  The problem with this method is that this can create a leak in your roof from the screws and void the warranty.  With heavy rain fall many gutter guard systems cannot take on large amounts of water, the water simply runs over the guard and defeats the purpose.  With plastic covers they tend to crack and break due to climate change and if tree branches fall onto the roof and hit the plastic covers they are damaged and debris falls back inside.

The best gutter protection is a gutter filter that we install that requires no screws or nails and fits inside the gutter.  This product is certified green and is made of a poly ether material that carries a 25 year warranty.  What is amazing about this product is that it can handle 28 inches of rain fall per hour, so it will not run over the gutter.

  • Certified green product
  • Prevents Mosquitoes and insects from nesting inside the gutter because it fills the gutter
  • Requires no screws or nails and its not visible from the ground
  • The black color material absorbs the suns heat so it prevents freezing
  • Handles 28 inches of rain fall per hour
  • Wont bend, crack or dent if tree branches fall on top of the material
  • 25 year warranty
  • Cheaper cost than other gutter guard protection systems

Clogged gutters create thousands of dollars in water damage

Clogged gutters and downspouts can cost you the home owner thousands of dollars in water damage.  When gutters and downspouts are clogged the water has no place to go but over the gutter and behind it into the home.  When the water goes over the gutter it can start to pond around the base of your home, so if you have a basement or crawl space you could start to see the areas slowly flood with water.  Inside the home your ceilings and walls can slowly start getting water spots and the drywall can start to get mold and mildew growing because its wet and has moisture.  Here at M&D Power Washing we clean out your gutters and place all debris into trash bags.  We flush out your downspouts with water to make sure they are working correctly.  Gutter guard protection is another service we provide once the gutters are cleaned out.  We service Fort Wayne, Indiana and all of Allen county as well as surrounding cities.  Visit our site http://www.cleantheroof.com or call 260-413-3290

Pressure washing a roof causes more harm than good

Many home owners are not aware of the proper way to clean a shingle roof.  Roof stains are a form of algae and need to be treated and eliminated with the proper cleaning solution.  There are some contractors that claim to use low pressure with a power washer, stating this is the best way to remove the unattractive stains.  Using pressure to clean a shingle roof can remove the granules that are on the surface of the shingles.  All shingle manufacturers recommend that you never use a pressure washer because it will void the warranty.

  • Use a solution that will eliminate the algae spores
  • Never use a pressure washer or any type of surface water cleaner
  • Use cleaners approved by shingle manufacturers
  • The proper cleaner will remove the stains without pressure
The picture below shows an attachment that hooks up to a pressure washer called a surface disk.  This is primarily used to clean concrete.  Clearly this method will damage the roof and remove the granules.  The algae spores are still alive because water alone will not eliminate it.

What causes roof stains?

Does your roof have dark stains all over the shingles?  If you look around you can see these stains on almost every roof.  Primarily in humid climate parts of the country.  The dark stains are a form of algae that grows on the north side of the roof where it gets less sunlight.  Asphalt shingles have limestone added as a filler and the algae growing on the roof feeds on the lime stone.  As time goes on the algae gets worse and continues to grow slowly pre-maturing the life of the shingles.  Proper cleaning will remove the stains and eliminate the algae spores.  Visit http://www.cleantheroof.com to see pictures and video showcasing our work.  M&D Power Washing out of Fort Wayne, Indiana serving all of Allen county.  Give us a call 260-413-3290 Fort Wayne, Indiana

Keep mold and mildew out of your basement

Does your basement have a small leak of water coming in through the wall, or does the basement windows have a small leak where water makes its way out?  Plumbing pipes have a small steady drip of water building up on the floor?  If this goes without the proper care your basement can start to have mildew growing.  Most home owners are not aware of the dangers of mildew and mold in the basement because if your not using it as a living space it goes without notice when it is used for storage.  Once mildew is present it must be cleaned properly and you must follow certain steps to keep it dry so that the mildew is not present again.  When dealing with mildew and mold you need to eliminate the spores.  Using a small amount of bleach mixed with water you can apply this to the areas.  Use caution and also wear a respirator so that you are not breathing in the fumes from the bleach.  The bleach mixed with water will not only eliminate the spores but it will help to remove the stains left over from the mildew and mold.  Here at M&D Power washing we have our own special cleaners that will eliminate the mildew and mold as well as the stains left behind.  We have cleaned many basements by spraying our solution on basement walls, floors and wood beams where the mildew has spread.  We also pressure wash concrete basement floors and remove the excess water.  Give us a call for a free estimate 260-413-3290 or visit our website at http://www.cleantheroof.com/

Removing roof stains and algae

Roof stains and algae that cover shingle roofs, tile roofs, cedar shake roofs and slate can be removed safely.  The black roof stains and algae that you see growing on your roof will break down the material and you the  home owner will have to replace the roof much sooner if not treated.  The stains are from the material in the shingle roof as well as the humidity.  The north side of a home gets less sunlight and with humid climates the algae and mildew will grow and feed off of the limestone filler in your shingles.  With cedar shake roofs and tile as well as slate the growth will still happen with humidity and less sunlight.  Treating the roof and removing the stains are recommended by all roofing manufacturers using the correct procedure and cleaning agents.  Never use a power washer to clean your roof or harsh chemicals.  Here at M&D we have been safely cleaning roofs and homes in Fort Wayne, Indiana and all surrounding counties.  Call or visit our website for more information.
